Preparing for Kerela (Poem)

(2024)

We’re itching to fly to mother India – this time the South,
Third time to India for both of us – hopefully in good health,

We’ve got plans yes, but we’re open to be guided by a higher force,
A course or retreat to embrace then follow the dots – inspector Morse,

First stop my family – we play a game of Cranium around the dinner table,
Sketching and sculpting in two teams, without fierce competition – like a fable,

Waiting for Lucy in Planet Organic – sheltering from the snow,
Just got my tetanus booster – so we’re good got the show,

Then over to Lucy’s parents for the last supper,
They’re actually off soon too – Costa Rica says Keith – Lucy’s papa,

Packing our backpacks for the road ahead,
Oh – Keith puts on my backpack and says he’s off instead!!

Masala foods say: “hello – we’re here to welcome you!”,
Quickly aclimbatising – oh Kerela, show us what to do
